Glaukos has enrolled its first patient for its phase 2 trials of GLK-301, a pilocarpine-based cream applied to the outer eyelid to treat dry eye disease (DED).
The California-based ophthalmic therapeutics development firm said it expects to enrol 200 DED subjects plus a further 20 patients with DED due to Sjogren’s Syndrome to the US trial of three different doses of GLK-301, which uses the company’s iLution cream-based platform.
“We believe our iLution platform has the potential to address the major unmet need for patients suffering from dry eye disease and other chronic eye diseases by providing an effective, easy to administer, safe, dropless transdermal therapeutic,” said Thomas Burns, Glaukos CEO.
