Almost all employees (98%) expect eyecare professionals (ECPs) to educate them on their vision insurance plan’s benefits and said ECP recommendations can influence them in purchasing premium lens options, according to the 2022 Transitions Optical US Workplace Wellness survey.
“Employees put a lot of trust in their ECP, and our survey findings reinforce the need for them to be aware of new employee expectations,” said Jonathan Ormsby, senior key account manager, Transitions Optical, US. “This is an opportunity to provide employees with exactly what they are looking for from an ECP, which can help a practice truly stand out.”
In a time when workers spend an increasing amount of time in front of a screen, the survey found employee performance is being impacted by eyestrain and light sensitivity (78%), symptoms including headaches (39%), blurry vision (36%), discomfort looking at bright screens (33%), and difficulty focusing on distant objects when looking away from the screen (33%).
To help combat these issues, 88% of respondents said they would likely purchase premium lens options if recommended by an ECP. Almost as many (86%) said they were likely to spend more than their insurance allowance for a new pair of glasses, while 96% said they would do the same for premium lens options such as UV protection (55%), blue-light protection (49%) and photochromic lenses (44%).
