Glaucoma New Zealand (GNZ) is launching a new online education programme for optometrists, developed by University of Auckland Professor Helen Danesh-Meyer, a founding trustee of GNZ, and Dr Hannah Kersten.
Open for registration from 1 March 2022, the education course includes four case studies and covers different aspects of glaucoma care. It incorporates feedback from previous registrants and focuses on building knowledge and offering practical information while being time efficient and user friendly, explained GNZ general manager Pippa Martin. “Each case study is accompanied by an article of required reading; for each case, registrants will complete a multi-choice test to obtain CPD points. The new programme also features an interactive disc-grading component, where a series of optic disc photographs will require assessment across a range of parameters.”
Part of the registration package is GNZ’s new peer-review sessions for glaucoma-prescribing optometrists, said Martin. “Each participant will be given the opportunity to present a case during a series of online peer-review sessions facilitated by a glaucoma specialist ophthalmologist, in order to acquire valuable glaucoma peer-review CPD points.”
Support ‘Eye Believe’ this month
Kicking off in conjunction with World Glaucoma week 6-12 March 2022, GNZ will run its annual public awareness campaign, Eye Believe, to educate New Zealanders about the risks of glaucoma and raise funds for glaucoma education and research.
