Zeiss has introduced a new, easy to use tool for dispensers and optometrists to demonstrate the amount of UV protection present in patients’ lenses.
The C-UVProtect was developed in partnership with Voxelight, maker of the popular Sunscreenr UV camera which shows unprotected skin areas. The device incorporates Voxelight’s proprietary artificial intelligence facial analysis algorithms and a new indoor light technology to detect if the lenses are adequately protecting the patient’s eyes and skin from all UV rays. “Under UV light and using a special camera, clear lenses appear visibly dark if they block UV up to the World Health Organisation standard of 400nanometer (nm). The clearer the lenses appear, the less the UV protection,” said Zeiss.
The UV protect technology bridges a critical gap in UV protection in clear lenses, from the UV380nm industry standard to full UV400nm protection, said Zeiss. “This 20nm gap in protection is responsible for exposing an estimated four out of five eyeglass wearers to as much as 40% of total UV radiation at sea level.” Zeiss UV protect technology provides full UV400nm protection as standard in all its clear lenses.
