Glaukos has announced a long-term real-world study of its iStent technologies demonstrated 30% intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction at 6-12 months and reduced glaucoma medication burden, with subjects reporting an improved quality of life.
Further, iStent, iStent inject and iStent inject W were evaluated in more than 20,000 eyes in a total of 11 studies ranging from five to eight years. Glaukos said the resulting 200 peer-reviewed publications highlight the safety and efficacy of iStent and represent the longest-term body of clinical data for any MIGS procedure.
The titanium minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) iStent W implants are preloaded into a single-use sterile injector.
Dr Ike Ahmed, director of the Glaucoma and Advanced Anterior Segment Surgery Fellowship Program at the University of Toronto, Canada, said, “In my practice, iStent and iStent inject clinical outcomes have stood the test of time as I routinely see patients over 10 years post-iStent surgery whose glaucoma is still well-managed. The high safety and versatility of iStent technologies make this our most commonly used MIGS procedure in mild-moderate open-angle glaucoma.”
