Matthews group has acquired Napier’s Frederick Swain Optometrists, taking the group to 16 practices across New Zealand.
Matthews’ general manager Miles Clifford said he is thrilled with the acquisition. “The Matthews group strength comes from the experience, expertise and reputation of the individuals within it. We wanted a practice that could seamlessly provide some exciting new choices for patients in the region and Frederick’s reputation is second to none. We are delighted to welcome Fred and his team to the family.”
Clifford said Matthews had been looking for a presence in Hawkes Bay for some time; discussions with Frederick Swain began 18 months ago. “We were immediately drawn to both Fred’s and Leigh’s [Swain] desire to deliver patient and clinical excellence,” he said. “Frederick’s reputation, not only with patients but with fellow optometrists, was attractive to Matthews. It highlights a collegial, sharing approach that represents some of the values of Matthews.”
Frederick Swain Optometrists’ specialty in prosthetics was also appealing, Clifford said. “This wasn’t available in the wider network, so we are thrilled to now offer this specialty area.”
Both Frederick and Leigh Swain will continue to work in the practice, while optometrist Elise Tan also joins the Napier team. Tan, previously with Calver Optometrists in Wellington, is returning to her home region with her family.
