Macular Degeneration New Zealand (MDNZ) celebrated 11 years late last year, marking the occasion with a warm, friendly affair at Foundation on George Café in Newmarket, Auckland, and treating invited guests to some delicious light refreshments and bubbly.
Henry Ford, MDNZ chair, welcomed new general manager Anna Crane to the MDNZ family and thanked retiring general manager Phillippa Pitcher. Eleven years ago, MDNZ had a cause and not much else, he said, and it was a credit to Pitcher and the team that MDNZ had come as far as it has. “It’s a lot easier to get started than to carry on,” he said, adding that while it was certainly a good time to celebrate the charity’s success, there was still a lot more work to do.
Four of six of MDNZ’s founding members joined in the celebrations: Dr Dianne Sharp, Naomi Meltzer, Allan Jones and Viv Jones; Sandra Budd and Associate Professor Philip Polkinghorne, who were also founding members, were unable to attend.
