Australia’s national diabetes eye screening programme Keepsight is to receive a $1.3 million boost, the Government announced during National Diabetes Awareness Week (July 14-20).
The funding comes on top of a $1 million government grant given to Diabetes Australia last year to launch the initiative and Specsavers pledging an annual $1 million over five years for the scheme.
KeepSight aims to prevent diabetes-related blindness through early detection and prevention, by making regular eye checks easier and more accessible. Partners dedicated to tackling the eye-related impacts of diabetes include Diabetes Australia, Vision 2020 Australia, Oculo, Bayer and Specsavers.
Earlier this year, the Government announced $54.5 million research funding for diabetes, which affects over 1.7 million Australians.
