A US study has shown that netarsudil (Rhopressa) can offer additional intraocular pressure (IOP)-lowering effects in patients on maximally tolerated medical therapies for glaucoma.
After reviewing the medical records of 516 patients, Drs Bella Wolf and Edmund Farris Jr from the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai found that those receiving the maximum amount of other glaucoma medications experienced a mean IOP reduction of 2.31mmHg when netarsudil was added to their regimen.
Authors notedm however, that netarsudil’s cost and its tendency to cause conjunctival hyperaemia significantly impacted patient adherence.
