A trial using recombinant human nerve growth factor (rhNGF) eye drops to treat dry eye disease has had promising results.
Published in the British Journal of Ophthalmology, the Italian phase 2a prospective, multiple-dose, clinical trial on 40 patients, resulted in improvements in ocular surface damage and dry eye symptoms after four weeks of treatment.
Researchers concluded the results could lead to a much-needed new therapy for a common disease that remains difficult to treat.
