ODA expands offering in NZ

Petrusma said ODA’s ambition in the New Zealand market is to support and uplift dispensing opticians (DOs). “Our mission is not about growing membership, but rather supporting those looking for ongoing learning (with) fresh perspectives and practical tools to enhance their day-to-day dispensing,” she said.

The Association of Dispensing Opticians New Zealand (ADONZ) welcomes any initiative that helps support education and professional development within the optical dispensing sector, said president Courtney Chellew.

“However, it’s important to recognise that ADONZ’s role extends well beyond education. We are a professional association representing New Zealand’s registered dispensing opticians, focused on advocacy, scope of practice and advancing the profession within the regulated health environment.

“Our work involves direct engagement with government, ODOB and other professional bodies to ensure dispensing opticians have a strong voice in decisions that affect their practice and patients. While ODA is a private company offering training opportunities across Australasia to a wider optical audience, ADONZ remains the only member-led organisation dedicated solely to representing and supporting New Zealand dispensing opticians.”

Looking ahead, Kiwi DOs can expect regular face-to-face CPD workshops in more locations to meet the growing demand, Petrusma said. “At ODA we believe that access to quality education and CPD should be inclusive, affordable and practical, because better training means better dispensing. Our upcoming webinars and workshops are open to everyone, no matter the level of experience.”

ODA’s next NZ workshop, ‘Focus on Frames with ODA and Safilo’, is scheduled for 5 November in Auckland.
