oDocs Eye Care has awarded a postgraduate scholarship to Roger Hu from the Mechatronics Engineering Department in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Auckland.
The scholarship award is based on the candidate's achievements, the area of research and its alignment with oDocs' mission, said Dr Sheng Chiong Hong, oDocs founder and clinical director. “Roger's enthusiasm and technical prowess is inspiring. He previously interned with us, developing an application to detect the ocular red reflex for the prediction of refractive error. We look forward to working with him again.”
Hu, who is currently pursuing a master of engineering degree, will use the scholarship to help research the possibility of including retinal fundus images with specialist referrals for triaging, to ultimately help predict referral urgency, said Dr Hong. These images will then be incorporated with the automatic triage application oDocs is developing in collaboration with Precision Driven Health New Zealand.
Hu is oDocs’ second recipient for this prized scholarship, which is funded by a Callaghan Fellowship Grant. Potential candidates can apply for oDocs scholarships at https://odocs-tech.com/research
