At a presentation at the University of Auckland (UoA) titled ‘Restoring youthful vision’, Hood Fellow Professor James Wolffsohn told a captivated audience that the pursuit to restore youthful vision in a rapidly ageing population has a greater sense of urgency given the World Health Organization’s focus on the issues around refractive error and presbyopia research.
Delivered to a packed theatre of eyecare practitioners and researchers, the lecture marked the end of a three-month sabbatical for Prof Wolffsohn, head of optometry at Aston University in Birmingham, UK, and academic chair of the British Contact Lens Association. The Hood Fellowship was created in honour of former UoA vice chancellor Sir John Hood, to encourage international exchanges and research collaborations.
Welcomed by Professor Phillippa Poole, head of the school of Medicine at UoA, and hosted by Professor Jennifer Craig, head of the Ocular Surface Laboratory in the Department of Ophthalmology, Prof Wolffsohn was described as a “gracious and talented visitor”.
