Auckland-based consultant ophthalmologist Professor Helen Danesh-Meyer, an international authority on glaucoma and neuro-ophthalmology, is the new chair of RANZCO’s Women in Ophthalmology (WIO) committee.
The WIO group has grown significantly since its formation in January 2017, attracting record numbers at its 2019 RANZCO conference meeting, as it strives to support female ophthalmologists through their training and careers, and gain greater recognition for their achievements.
Prof Danesh-Meyer said she was delighted to be appointed as chair and was excited to be able to further the committee’s goals and continue the battle against discrimination in the industry.
A longer article about Prof Helen Danesh-Meyer’s goals and aspirations for WIO will appear in February 2020’s issue of NZ Optics, together with a full review of the RANZCO 2019 conference.
