In response to the Covid-19 lockdown, Auckland-based anterior segment surgery Re:Vision has launched an e-learning platform for optometrists to pursue CPD education from the comfort of their own homes.
Re:Vision’s Drs Trevor Gray and Mo Ziaei said they decided early on to take a proactive approach to support New Zealand’s optometrists during these challenging times; a decision borne out by a resounding ‘yes please’ when they surveyed their optometrist network.
The company’s e-learning platform went live in early-April, two weeks after inception, said Dr Gray. “Thanks largely to Re:Vision’s Nick Mathew’s IT skills. Then, it was just up to Mo and I to sit down and record our lectures from our lockdown bubbles.”
While Re:Vision’s e-learning platform might have come about as a response to the national emergency, it will definitely survive past lockdown, he said. “Our e-learning platform is certainly here to stay. We have received amazing feedback and in the 15 days the site has been available, 115 optometrists have enrolled and 287 course modules have been completed, resulting in 143 CPD points issued to optometrists.
“These are extremely tough times for optometry and ophthalmology. Never before has it been more important for our two professions to work symbiotically together to care for our shared patients and pull through these testing times.”
