Nanoscope Therapeutics has dosed the first of 27 retinitis pigmentosa (RP) patients with its light activatable optogenetic monotherapy.
The phase 2b US clinical trial of MCO-010 will deliver multi-characteristic opsin genes to subjects’ retinal cells via a proprietary AAV2 vector and intravitreal injection, with the goal of re-enabling opsin expression. The phase 1/2a study indicated that the therapy was well tolerated and might also be suited to other degenerative eye diseases.
Nanoscope CEO Sulagna Bhattacharya said, “The results from our phase 2b trial may provide the basis for consideration by the FDA for accelerated approval of MCO-010 for the treatment of RP.”
