California-based manufacturer of augmented reality (AR) glasses, Ocutrx Vision Technologies, has released a new, state-of-the-art design for its flagship Oculenz AR Wear glasses.
Designed to be far more low-profile and, at 200g, less than half the weight of its previous HoloLens 2, the new specs are designed for people living with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and others who may require AR support for work or vision.
The new design should help relieve the stigma associated with wearable medical products as they look more like normal specs with a tinted upper lens visually obscuring the embedded sensors and cameras, said the company. “The floating lenses provide a bright, unobstructed field of view complementing the uniquely wide, micro-display projection capacities, making it ideal for demanding medical applications, industrial environments and consumer use.”
Ocutrx claims to be the first AR company to fully integrate eye-tracking and cellular connectivity into its headset design. “This isn’t just a step forward for Ocutrx, but rather for the entire AR Wear industry,” said Ocutrx CEO Michael Freeman. “For example, a surgeon in the operating room will now benefit from the feather light weight and redesigned head strap, providing comfort for extended periods of use while keeping the headset secure as the physician leans forward during surgery for 3D visualisation. The intuitive flip up display also provides protection for industrial wear applications during non-use.”
