This year’s Snowvision State University of New York (SUNY) scholars are Aan Chu of Wellington and Jasmine Feng of Palmerston North. NZ Optics caught up with them to find out what the scholarship means to them and what will be their focus at SUNY.
Aan Chu – recent graduate
It’s an absolute privilege to be a recipient of the SUNY scholarship, said Chu. “When I got the call, I was really surprised and excited! I video-called my grandparents and showed them a map of New York and where the SUNY College of Optometry building is located.”

Chu said she is planning to focus on myopia control and low vision rehabilitation while in New York, adding she’d also love an opportunity to learn about cutting-edge research and observe clinical trials, if possible. “I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can and gaining a different perspective of what optometry is like outside of New Zealand. I'm also excited to be a tourist in New York, where there are endless experiences to be had.”
