The team at Stewart Caithness Gray (SCG) took part in the recent Dunedin half-marathon to support their colleague Jane Ludmann who was diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer at age 32.
“Race day was a great success! Everybody managed their personal goals and team SCG has raised $2,160 so far [goal $5,000]. We’re thrilled with the generous support we’ve received from New Zealand’s optical community, including some of our amazing suppliers,” said SCG’s Kobi German. “Jane and her inspiring attitude were drive enough for us all.”
Ludmann responded, "I am so grateful for the support from the team at Stewart Caithness Gray Optometrists and to everyone who has donated so far to Cure Our Ovarian Cancer. Your donations mean so much to me, and to all the other women with this form of cancer. If you haven’t donated yet, please do so. It would mean the world to me.”
Rare cancers like low-grade serous carcinoma (LGSC) account for 50% of cancer deaths but receive only 13.5% of research funding, said Ludmann. In the absence of a way to donate directly to LGSC research, she founded Cure Our Ovarian Cancer last year. The registered charity gives 100% of all donations (less a small credit card fee if applicable) to research. To donate, visit cureourovariancancer.org/nz
