Well-known to New Zealand’s eye health industry, sales professional Campbell Gordon has launched his own company Titan Optical to bring dispensing tools, acuity software and more to our independent optometry practices.
The Covid-19 pandemic gave Gordon the push he needed, he said, as well as time to set up the business. “I’ve wanted to start my own business for a long time now. The idea of building something of my own and being my own boss appealed to me.”
The name ‘Titan’ came to him after spending too much time on thesaurus.com and dictionary.com looking for a good, universal brand name that didn’t limit the business to optics, said Gordon. “I really wanted to have a reference to something I personally enjoy tied into the brand. I love old sci-fi books and one of my all-time favourites is, The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. So, the name sounded good enough, the domain name was available and it tied into Vonnegut.”
Titan Optical’s initial focus will be on dispensing tools, optical parts, vision aids and visual acuity software, said Gordon, and includes established brands such as Western Optical, Vigor Optical and Chart 2020 with more in the pipeline, all linked together through a simple online ordering service.
“The feedback I have received so far has been overwhelmingly positive,” he said, adding he’s now looking forward to seeing clients face to face to discuss solutions.
