The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital is seeking patients for a phase II clinical study of Okogen’s OKG-0301 to treat viral conjunctivitis.
In partnership with the Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA), the hospital is one of seven trial sites involved in the so-called RUBY study, tackling the world’s number one cause of eye infection that affects around 25 million people each year.
Associate Professor Mark Daniell, principal investigator, said, “Viral conjunctivitis is a very common and severe form of conjunctivitis, and it typically increases in prevalence across Australia during the winter flu season. Up until now, there has been no useful treatment.”
CERA expects strong enrolment in the trial, given the increased rates of the highly contagious adenoviral conjunctivitis already witnessed this winter. For more on the trial visit rubytrial.com.au
