Featuring 73-year-old veteran artist Reba Pal painting chalachitra, a Bengali art form from East India, the professional award of the 2023 World Sight Day Photo Competition was won by Santanu Bose, while Marisa Martins Armada won the amateur category for her picture, ‘The Smile of Happiness’.
“These pictures show how we can help people with visual needs and encourage everyone to take good care of their eyes. It helps more people, including policymakers, understand why taking care of our eyes must be a priority,” said Caroline Casey, International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) president and photo competition judge.
The photo competition is part of the IAPB World Sight Day #LoveYourEyes campaign. It received close to one thousand submissions from dozens of countries, while more than 13 million pledges were made from individuals and organisations committing to a sight test, more than double the figure reached last year.
