Touching down on New Zealand soil for the first time at the RANZCO NZ 2023 meeting in Wellington, the new Oculus Pentacam AXL Wave took pride of place at the centre of Designs for Vision’s (DFV’s) stand.
The Pentacam brand has been trusted for more than 20 years, said DFV’s Gian Victoria. “So it is exciting to have the AXL Wave here and finally be able to show people what it can do.”
A step up from the Pentacam AXL, which integrated axial length measurement into the Pentacam’s anterior eye diagnostic capabilities for more accurate intraocular lens calculations, the AXL Wave now combines five parameters: wavefront aberrometry of the entire eye, objective refraction, retroillumination, optical biometry and Scheimpflug-based tomography.
“It’s ideal if you're doing a lot of refractive surgery, like LASIK or SMILE, and it has applications for cataract too if you’re putting in a lot of torics, multifocals or ICLs (implantable contact lenses),” said Victoria. “The measurements are all very accurate. It’s a whole level up really. And having all the parameters in one device means it’s space saving and time saving as well.”
