Ophthalmopro’s new intraocular lens (IOL) range, aimed at expanding cataract and refractive surgery options, is available in New Zealand, said David Harris, Ophthalmopro territory manager New Zealand.
The range includes monofocal, extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) and hybrid premium lenses, designed to offer surgeons options across a range of patient needs and budgets, he told NZ Optics at RANZCO NZ 2026.
The design aims to reduce some of the visual disturbances associated with traditional multifocal lenses, he said. “By reducing the amount of rings… you’re actually able to significantly lower [the risk] of dysphotopsia.”
A key advantage is a shared injector platform across the range, which simplifies lens implantation and reduces the need for staff to learn multiple delivery systems, said Harris. "From my experience working in theatre, it's been really nice hearing the nurses say they don't have to remember different loading techniques or injector systems for different lenses." This allow practices to standardise surgical workflows, potentially reducing training requirements and minimising the risk of procedural errors.
The entry-level Primus monofocal lens is aimed at patients needing straightforward distance correction, while the ZOE (zone operating enhancement) EDOF lens is designed to provide a broader range of vision without some of the compromises associated with traditional multifocal designs. “What makes that unique is that it’s working just on higher-order aberrations,” Harris explained.
