A new software upgrade for the Revo HR OCT platform is giving clinicians a much wider view of the retina, potentially improving detection and monitoring of peripheral pathology, said Optopol NZ general manager Craig Norman.
"The individual images remain at 45 degrees, but the software can now automatically capture and stitch multiple images together into a widefield mosaic, up to 150 degrees FOV,” he said. “That allows us to visualise much more of the retina, including the peripheral regions, in a single composite image.”
The automatic imaging mode requires minimal operator input, he said. “That’s the real evolution of that software.”
The wider field may help clinicians detect peripheral retinal pathology that could otherwise be missed. Norman said peripheral lesions, including choroidal naevi and early retinal detachments, can occur outside the standard imaging field and may be more readily detected with wider retinal coverage. The software also allows clinicians to compare images and OCT scans over time, helping them monitor suspicious lesions for change.
The software upgrade is being offered free with the latest version, while Optopol has also launched a new Revo Care Plus support plan, providing unlimited online support, software upgrades and limited training, Norman said.
