Welcome to the new NZ Optics website!

The work runs to 11 print issues a year and an annual wallplanner, two monthly e-newsletters, the Optical Information Guide (OIG) supplier directory, an events calendar and a classifieds board. The new site is designed to make this more accessible across all your devices.

How access works

There are three ways to read NZ Optics online.

Free Registration costs nothing. Register and you can read our news and the large majority of our articles, sign up for the e-newsletters, and use the events calendar.

Digital Online is $40 a year (plus GST). It adds the full digital edition of the magazine and our subscriber-only articles, read on any device without receiving a physical copy of the magazine.

Print & Digital is $99 a year (plus GST) for delivery within New Zealand, with overseas and multi-copy rates listed separately. You get the 11 print issues and the wallplanner posted to you, plus all of the digital access that comes with Digital Online.

Already get the magazine? Activate your account

If you already subscribe to the print magazine, you do not need to buy anything. Your subscription includes full digital access. You just need to claim the account we have set up against the email address we hold for you.

Here is how, start to finish:

1. Go to nzoptics.co.nz/login and enter the email address we have on record for your subscription.
2. If you have set a password before, enter it and sign in. You are done.
3. If you have never logged in, you will see a panel telling you the account is on our subscriber list but has no password yet. Click Activate my account.
4. Check your inbox for an email from us titled Claim your NZ Optics account. If it is not there within a few minutes, look in your spam or junk folder. The link is good for 24 hours.
5. Click the link. It opens a page where you set a password (at least eight characters).
6. Save it. You will see a message confirming your account is ready.
7. Sign in at nzoptics.co.nz/login with your email and new password.

If your email is not recognised, your subscription has not gone missing. It usually means we hold a different email address for you, or your record came across to the new system without an email attached. Get in touch and we will link it by hand: use the contact form at nzoptics.co.nz/contact-us, or email our subscriptions team at [email protected], with the name and details on your subscription so we can find you. Once we have updated your record, the steps above will work.

Why some articles are members-only

The question we expect most is why anything sits behind a login at all. The answer is straightforward: subscribers, along with our advertising partners, fund the journalism, the clinical writing and the conference reporting included. Reserving part of the content protects what they pay for.

Most of what we publish stays open. The news, the OIG directory and the majority of our articles are free to every registered reader. The digital edition of the magazine and our longer, in-depth pieces are for members and subscribers. And if a paid subscription lapses, there is a 14-day grace period before access changes, so a late renewal does not lock you out overnight.

You will be opted in by default to Clinical Desktop, which is clinically focused, and Talking Shop, on the business of practice, plus our Announcements and Newsflash alerts for anything that cannot wait.
